Bên cạnh đó trong nông nghiệp, việc sử dụng các chất hóa học một cách quá mức đã gây ra sự ô nhiễm môi trường đất trầm trọng. Không chỉ môi trường đất, nguồn nước hiện nay cũng đang xuất hiện những ô nhiễm nghiêm trọng do việc các nhà máy, xí nghiệp thải các chất thải công nghiệp chưa được xử lí trực tiếp ra nguồn nước hay vào các mùa vụ, dọc các mương rãnh những vỏ chai thuốc trừ sâu, thuốc diệt cỏ bị người nông dân tiện tay vứt xuống, xác động vật chết. Ngoài ra hiện nay môi trường không khí cũng không còn trong lành như trước nữa bởi khí thải công nghiệp, khói từ các phương tiện giao thông, đốt rác. Đặc biệt việc khai thác khoáng sản, tài nguyên thiên nhiên một cách bừa bãi, quá mức hay hiện tượng đốt rừng làm nương rẫy đã làm mất đi hệ cân bằng sinh thái.

Những ảnh hưởng nghiêm trọng tới môi trường đều bắt nguồn từ ý thức của con người. Đó có thể là do sự vô tình, không nhận thức rõ được hậu quả của vấn đề gây ra. Thế nhưng cũng có một bộ phận những con người vì lợi ích trước mắt, cho dù biết những việc mình làm sẽ gây hại cho môi trường nhưng vẫn cố tình làm. Từ sự vô tình hay cố ý đó đã gây nên hậu quả khôn lường. Việc môi trường bị ô nhiễm trước hết ảnh hưởng xấu tới sức khỏe của con người. Ví dụ như các bệnh về đường hô hấp, hệ tiêu hóa, nghiêm trọng hơn nó còn ảnh hưởng tới sự tồn tại của con người (ô nhiễm không khí gây ra hiệu ứng nhà kính, Trái Đất nóng lên, thủng tầng ozon). Ô nhiễm môi trường còn gây ra mất đi mĩ quan chung. Bạn hãy thử tưởng tượng trước cổng bệnh viện hay trường học có những đống rác bốc mùi hôi khó chịu, bạn sẽ không cảm thấy điều gì sao? Các công ty, xí nghiệp cần có biện pháp xử lí rác thải, nước thải, khí thải đúng với quy định trước khi xả ra môi trường. Nhà nước cũng cần có những xử lí nghiêm khắc đối với những cá nhân, tổ chức vi phạm. Đối với học sinh, cần giữ vệ sinh chung các lớp học, trường học, bảo vệ cây xanh, vứt rác đúng nơi đúng chỗ. Những hành động nhỏ ấy cũng đã góp phần bảo vệ môi trường.
