Lý Thái Tổ (1010 – 1028) Lý Công Uẩn người làng Cổ Pháp (Từ Sơn, Bắc Ninh), mẹ họ Phạm, sinh ngày 12 tháng 2 năm Giáp Tuất (974), mẹ chết khi mới sinh, thiền sư Lý Khánh Văn nhận làm con nuôi, Lý Công Uẩn thông minh và có chí khí khác người ngay từ nhỏ. Nhờ sự nuôi dạy của nhà sư Lý Khánh Văn và Lý Vạn Hạnh, Lý Công Uẩn trở thành người xuất chúng, văn võ kiêm toàn, làm đến chức Điện tiền chỉ huy sứ, khi Lê Ngọa Triều mất, triều thần tôn Lý Công Uẩn lên ngôi Hoàng đế, niên hiệu Thuận Thiên, vẫn lấy Quốc hiệu là Đại Cồ Việt, đóng đô tại Hoa Lư. Tháng 7 năm 1010, vua Lý Thái Tổ cho dời đô về thành Đại La, một buổi sáng đẹp trời, thuyền vừa cập bến, Nhà Vua thấy Rồng vàng bay lên, do đó đặt tên là Kinh đô Thăng Long (tức là Hà Nội ngày nay).
