The first thing about the media to realize is that it is ever-changing. Newspapers and radio were the main sources of news twenty years ago and the best way to spread information. Print publications are almost extinct today, and everyone gets the news because of blogs and social media.

The media's advantages include the fact that the media offers a forum to widely exchange knowledge and news. This data varies from simple items to the visibility of injustices, such as local weather and future events. COVID-19 is a perfect example to remember. If there were no media (newspapers, radio, television, websites, and social media), it would have been very difficult to spread the news that we are fighting a deadly virus, and the death toll would have been higher. A second benefit of the media is that it introduces us to music, art, and forms of life that we would never have learned otherwise.  A third benefit is that the media offers a forum for firms to gain market share thanks to advertisements, thereby keeping the business working.

There are also drawbacks and risks to the media on the other side of the coin, and these have arguably been compounded by the latest media changes. Our news was discovered in newspapers 20 years ago and was written by professional journalists. Anyone with a computer and an idea can get posted on the internet nowadays, and this can lead to dislike and rumors.
