Sau ba mươi năm hoạt động cách mạng ở nước ngoài, tháng 2-1941 Bác Hồ trở về Tổ quốc, trực tiếp lãnh đạo phong trào cách mạng ở trong nước. Khi đó, Người sống và làm việc trong một điều kiện hết sức gian khổ nhưng Bác vẫn vui vẻ lạc quan. Bài thơ Tức cảnh Pác Bó là một trong những tác phẩm Người sáng tác trong thời gian này.
