In order to welcome our foreign friends to Vietnam and get them prepared and familiar with Vietnamese culture, we would like to present a guidance of dos and don’ts of Vietnam dining etiquette.

Let’s begin what we should not do. We provide 5 don’t-s:

Frist, never stick the chopstick straight into the bowl because it is considered as a sign of bad luck and death. Second, don’t serve too much rice for one bowl. Instead, you should serve the rice in around half or 2/3 bowl. Third, if you are served with fishes in the meal, remember not to flip the fishes on the plate. Flipping the fish is considered as an unlucky sign of fishermen’s flipping ship. Fourth, never point the chopstick to anyone as this act is considered as a rude behavior. Lastly, avoid digging into the dish. Just take food randomly.

Next is 5 points with dos

To begin with, you really need to wait for people before starting the meal. Second, never eat before the seniors and the elderly. Moreover, you can not leave when you finish your meal. Instead, you need to stay until all people finish.Third, for men, you can sometimes serve wine or beer for other men Lastly, you need to wash the dishes and clean up the table after finish eating.

That’s all about our presentation. Thank you!
