Luu Huu Phuoc was born on September 12, 1921, in Hau Giang (Can Tho). He was a noted figure in culture, composer of many lively patriotic wartime songs, children's songs, and the occasional opera. His typical works included Bach Dang Giang, Tieng Goi Thanh Nien and Giai Phong Mien Nam. In his life, he had been a member of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Committee of Culture and Education of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and he had received the Ho Chi Minh prize after his death. Luu Huu Phuoc was one of the most prominent cultural figures during the national liberation movements. He died on June 16, 1989, in Ho Chi Minh city.
