My study habits consist of numerous techniques in order to learn the material I need to know for each of my classes. I like to read the material in the textbook before it is gone over in class. By reading the material before I go to class, I am using implicit memory while in class. Even if I do not learn all of the material while I read it, it will still help me understand the material while I am in class. It would be impossible for me to learn everything from reading it once and it would be too time consuming for me to just read the chapter over and over. I then take notes in class and do my best to understand how the textbook relates to what is being taught. Then, two or three days before a test or quiz, I go over notes and make out note cards for the terms I need to know. I then study as long as I need to in order to learn the material, which depends on how difficult the material is and how much material there is to know. I think I follow the study tactics that the book gives pretty well. I definitely work smarter, not harder by reading all the information first, and then the following steps simplify in the information more and more through the classroom and use of outlines. I also avoid cramming by going over the material a couple days in advance of when I am going to be tested. I do not however use mnemonics, which is something I should consider doing. Those mentioned above are my study habits and I really could see improvement they bring about.
