Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since 1964. The game was invented on February 9, 1895, in United States. At that time, William G. Morgan, a physical education director, created a new game called Mintonette, a name derived from the game of badminton, as a pastime to be played indoors and by any number of players. The game took some of its characteristics from tennis and handball. Whereas, badminton was also created at the same time. Then the inventor combined those games and made up a new indoor sport called “volleyball”. The first country outside the United States to adopt volleyball was Canada in 1900. In 1947, federation international of volleyball (FIVB) was founded and the first World Championships were held in 1949 for men and 1952 for women. The sport is now popular around the world including Asia and Northern America.
