1.There are never many tourists exploring our neck of the woods. Actually, I don’t even think that this area is in any guidebooks. You see, I live in the middle of the Rice Bowl of Thailand and not many tourists want to see rice fields. But when visitors do show up, I always take them to the School of Fish.
About three miles down the road from our place is a Buddhist temple that offers the School Of Fish. It is nothing more than a fairly sturdy fishing dock set on the banks of the Nan River. As with any classroom there are rules. The #1 rule here is No Fishing.
Instead the monks would prefer you feed the fish and relax. There are buoys both upstream and downstream that designate a safe zone for the seemingly thousands of fish that swarm the water. The temple also sells fish food. Why? The answer is very practical and uses common sense.
The Head Monk explained it this way. “The fish food is cheap and watching the fish in the river is relaxing. Plus, it helps the temple pay its bills.”
Drop by our place if you want directions to the School of Fish. Because, it ain’t in any guidebook…
