Traditional Tet is one of the most important festivals of Vietnam considered as the most important moment of a year. The time starts on the 1 st day of the 1 st lunnar month of the new year. To prepare for the Tet, every family often buys a lot of new things, cleans the house, prepares a tray of rice to worship ancestors. And yet, on the traditional New Year's Day, there is also a custom to visit the elderly, family members, friends and neighbors every time Tet comes. At that time, homeowners or adults will give lucky money to children and elders with wishes at the beginning of the new year of peace, prosperity, and everything as desired. This is not only a custom but also a cultural beauty of the Vietnamese people, to show concern and hope for a full and peaceful life for everyone.....

Every year, to celebrate New Year in Viet Nam, people make Tet holiday. It has become a tradition in Viet Nam, and people still celebrate it now.

New Year is a holiday when families gather together to say Goodbye to an old year to welcome a new year coming. People do a lot of things together and have fun. We usually make Banh Chung, a kind of cake makes from rice and there is meat and other things inside. We also have a tradition to stay up to the last moment of the year, the moment between an old year and a new year, call New Year's Eve. And then we receive money from older people, call Lucky Money. They wish us a new age when giving us lucky money. There is also a lot of special things at Tet; like the first person who walks into our house at Tet, call the first footer, will bring us luck in the new year; etc.

But at Tet, there is something we shouldn't do. We shouldn't eat squid at Tet because squid in Vietnamese brings a mean "black" is that eating squid will bring bad luck in the new year. And we shouldn't sweep the house at Tet because if we do that we will sweep out all the luck in the new year.

Tet is coming, and everyone is busy for Tet. But if you are reading this, wish you a Happy New Year!
