Smoking is a dangerous habit and causes different respiratory diseases. Asthma is one of them and my maternal uncle has experienced the disease for around two and a half years.

My maternal uncle, Mr. Kien once was a chain smoker. As a result, different diseases developed inside his body and asthma is one of them and made him suffer for a long time. It affects people regardless of age but people who are smokers are likely to be the victim within a short time.

When Uncle Kien started smoking from his early teens, nothing happened to him. But then he used to smoke cigarettes in hidden places and never exposed the smoking events, but it was exposed when he was in university for graduation, his girlfriend, Hien (whom he married later) exposed it to all. Since then he continued smoking before everyone and turned into a chain smoker in our family. After his marriage, he started feeling respiratory troubles. Breathing became difficult for him and turned short with coughing. At this point, he consulted with a doctor who diagnosed that he is affected with asthma.

The doctor made an action plan for him to cure asthma but it was not so easy in the first days. The doctor told my uncle to avoid things that may trigger asthma and the most important condition was to say goodbye to smoking – his long companion. Then he also prescribed medicine with a specific dose to be taken twice a day. The asthma specialist doctor also advised my uncle to change his lifestyle and suggested for inhaler if it is not controlled by the medications. Accordingly, my uncle gave up smoking, started taking the medicines and changed his lifestyle. Now his asthma is under control and he is leading a healthy life.

I have a big health problem which is obesity. Obesity causes many health problems including, heart diseases, high blood pressure, and even premature death. I spend 31 hours in front of the computer screen and 56 hours in from of the T.V. a week. At the same time I could be missing out on sleep or even the amount of time I could be spending with family or friends.

I think there can only be one solution. It all leads back to the parents! My parents need to face the fact that if they do it or if they allow it we're going to think it is fine . It is extremely important to limit the time they spend on electronic devices a day. Parents must also watch what they buy. If there is always ice cream in the freezer or brownies in the pantry, of course we are going to eat it. Instead of potato chips, why not buy a bag of baby carrots to snack on. If parents make safer and healthier choices, I believe that my obesity can disappear soon.
